Kanye West has once again made headlines—this time not just for his outrageous antisemitic remarks but also for his shocking claim about a new diagnosis. The rapper, who has previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, now says that he has been misdiagnosed and is actually autistic.
But is this claim real, or just another chaotic outburst from a man on the edge? Experts are skeptical.
Did Kanye Really Get Diagnosed with Autism?
In a recent podcast appearance, West claimed that his wife, Bianca Censori, encouraged him to undergo additional medical evaluations, leading to what he described as a new diagnosis of autism. He suggested that this revelation helped him better understand his behavior.
However, many mental health professionals question the validity of such a claim. Psychologist Jo Hemmings, in an interview with The Scottish Sun, expressed concerns over West’s mental and emotional state, warning that he appears to be spiraling into a breakdown. (Source)
Dr. Martin Novak, speaking to GrandLives.com, noted that without a full psychiatric assessment, it is impossible to determine whether Kanye’s claim is true.
“We can only speculate based on his public statements,” Dr. Novak explained. “A real autism diagnosis requires extensive testing, and it’s unclear if Kanye has undergone a formal evaluation. His past bipolar diagnosis, combined with his unpredictable behavior, makes this claim highly questionable.”
Mental Health Crisis or Substance Abuse?
Beyond the autism claim, many experts worry that Kanye’s erratic behavior may be tied to substance abuse rather than a new diagnosis.
“If Kanye is struggling with untreated mental health issues combined with potential substance use, it could explain his impulsive and often disturbing public outbursts,” Dr. Novak added.
West has previously admitted to battling an opioid addiction, which could exacerbate symptoms of bipolar disorder or other underlying conditions.
Is Kanye’s Inner Circle to Blame?
One of the biggest concerns among mental health experts is that West is surrounded by people who enable his self-destructive behavior.
“He may not be receiving the help he needs because those around him are more concerned with their own financial interests,” said Dr. Novak.
With brands cutting ties and public figures distancing themselves, Kanye West’s future hangs in the balance. Will he finally seek professional help, or is he heading for a complete meltdown?
