LONDON – Rising Formula 1 star Oliver Bearman (19) has revealed that he failed his first driving test due to an unexpected mistake – he didn’t fully stop at a stop sign.
The British driver, who now races for Haas, admitted with a smile that he had never encountered a stop sign before, since race tracks don’t have traffic signs.
“I probably shouldn’t even be saying this, but I passed my test on the second attempt. I didn’t come to a full stop at a stop sign. I did slow down, but I didn’t completely stop the car. Of course, I know that I have to stop, but on a racetrack, we don’t have stop signs, so it was my first time dealing with one,” Bearman explained, as quoted by DPA.
A Lesson Learned for the Young F1 Star
Bearman made history last season by becoming the youngest British driver to race in Formula 1, making his debut with Ferrari as a substitute for Carlos Sainz. He also had two race starts for Haas.
Despite being an elite racing driver, Bearman admitted that he had overestimated his skills when preparing for the driving test:
“It’s the typical racing driver mindset – I thought I could pass the test without any lessons. That was a mistake, and before my second attempt, I made sure to get some extra practice.”
A humbling moment for the young talent, but one that fans found amusing. Even the fastest drivers in the world sometimes struggle with everyday driving rules! 🚦🏎️
